Hi I'm Aaron AA0AF. I've been around ham radio most of my life and finally got my license a few years ago. Some of my favorite parts of the hobby are satellites, POTA, Winlink, and pretty much any digital mode.
I recently started as a VE after getting my extra in 2026. Both local with ARAC and online with PARC. I have links to both if you're looking to get licensed or upgrade. They're great groups!
I'm lucky to live in an area with a very active group of hams. We have a few volunteer events every year which I enjoy doing more than I expected. If you ever get a chance to help with comms at an event give it a try! Worse case you get a sunburn.
We also have an excellent packet network with an active BBS. If that sounds interesting at all, take a look at Outpost PMM and EasyTerm. All it takes is one person to start building. There's also Network 105 on HF. I don't have a permanent HF setup at home so I'm not very active there.
This section is reserved for if when I learn CW.
Here's all my digital numbers
AllStar: 67902
HOIP: 104222
DMR: 3191346
D-Star: The local repeater is usually linked to XLX632, not mine but it's fairly active.
This website has a little bit of everything. I occasionally write posts related to amateur radio. Here's a link to some recent posts and here's a few of my favorite ones.
Setting up an MMDVM hotspot (DMR) with Pi-Star on a Raspberry Pi
Measuring SWR with a NanoVNA
Adding Satellites to an OpenGD77 Radio
Thanks for stopping by. See you on the air.
